NHTI Athletic Hall of Fame
Perry Seagroves has long been a beacon of excellence who has illuminated our journey in profound ways.
Coach Seagroves, a Professor of Chemistry and long-serving NHTI Cross Country coach, has etched an enduring legacy at NHTI. His journey encompasses various roles that have left an incredible mark: From 1985 to 1987, Perry coached Ice Hockey. It was his first experience with NHTI, and although the team could not continue Perry discovered a love for coaching that would only grow in the years to come. Transitioning to coaching Cross Country, Perry's impact flourished. As Head Coach from 2018 to 2023, he secured the title of YSCC Coach of the Year for four consecutive years, guiding his teams to triumphs. He credits longtime friend and former NHTI Cross Country Head Coach, Tom Walton, with teaching him everything he knows about coaching. Perry's coaching prowess transformed athletes into champions, exemplified by his and Tom's role in Heather Searles' USCAA Women's National Championship win. Before NHTI, Searles was not a competitive runner. After the incredible coaching she received from these two men, along with her own ambition, she left as a national champion.
Perry's greatest joy emerged from the relationships he cultivated with his athletes, embodying NHTI's welcoming and empowering spirit. Perry co-founded the Capital Area Race Series and embodies the spirit of inclusivity, ambition, and excellence. A UNH and University of New England graduate, Perry's impact transcends coaching, making him a true embodiment of NHTI values. Not only is Perry a YSCC Coach of the Year, but he has been voted as NHTI's Teacher of the Year as well.
