NHTI Athletic Hall of Fame
All you have to say is Nacho, the world stops. People in the running community know the former NHTI star All-American cross-country runner by his first name. He has a big personality and a great story of success here at NHTI, at SNHU and now on the professional circuit.
He has developed his own brand with logos all featuring Nacho. His creative and energetic approach to life has transcended his aura onto the paths of cross country here at NHTI. His energy and enthusiasm are absolutely contagious.
Nacho enjoyed a stellar career at NHTI earning his degree in Landscape and Environmental Design before earning a full scholarship to SNHU where he earned many awards and distinguished himself on the national D-2 Cross Country scene.
No challenge has proven too tough for Nacho. A top flight All-American runner for our NHTI Cross Country teams, Nacho has followed the footsteps of Coach Tom Walton becoming a nationally ranked athlete in a number of categories such as snow shoe racing, half and full marathons and now Ultra running events of 50 plus miles.
Now his world is filled with sky diving, cliff diving and water sports. His lives by the motto “you are only confined by the walls you build yourself.”
It really is hard to believe when Nacho arrived on our campus as a college freshman that Nacho was a shy person. Over his time at NHTI, he embraced the running leading NHTI teams to YSCC Championships and he personally finished as the national runner-up in the USCAA championships in 2013 just a mere 15 seconds behind the winner.
His teammates, coaches, rivals and the running community all embraced our Nacho. He has built lasting relationships with all of his NHTI coaches and teammates. He refers to Tom and Deb Walton as the grandparents he never had.
On behalf of NHTI Athletics, let’s welcome Nacho Hernando with a video acceptance for his induction to the NHTI Athletic Hall of Fame.
