Genuine and humble. Two words to describe Austin Fox who is being recognized tonight as an outstanding golfer and a member of our golf team that finished third in the USCAA Nationals in 2011.
Austin enjoyed two tremendous seasons on the best NHTI golf teams to date helping lead our Lynx to consecutive YSCC titles and was recognized as the team MVP twice during his time on our golf team. He went onto play at NCAA D-2 Southern NH University competing in the NCAA East Atlantic Regionals.
Serving as a role model for any team offers a great opportunity for utilizing and developing your leadership skills. Coach Dave Edwards and Assistant Coach Alan Blake could always count on the steady and sure Austin Fox to help guide and keep a very talented team in check at all times.
As a more experience golfer now, the best part of his game is his putting. But back then, the best part was his iron play: consistent and on target.
He used to carry a yardage booklet he made for himself having recorded his average distances with, for example, a full wedge; then a 3/4 to full follow-through; 3/4 to 3/4; 1/2 to 3/4; 1/2 to 1/2. He would know within a couple yards how far a ball should travel.
Austin was at the top of the leader board in just about every conference match and NHTI Golf was undefeated in YSCC play both years he played. Austin and our Lynx golf team represented NHTI with class and dignity earning respect from USCAA membership.
Our golf team never elected captains or even recognized de facto leaders according to Coach Dave Edwards and I quote  “we were just a bunch of idiots who loved playing golf.”
He wants nothing but his best effort every time on the golf course.  Anything less is "Not REPEATABLE” for this audience in his words.
Austin was and is a fierce competitor who can still smile and shake hands, win or lose. He's willing to try to diagnose and help swing flaws in other golfers' games.
To relive the outstanding 2011 season again, here are a few highlights and recaps. In the 2011 YSCC championship held at Natanis Golf Club in Maine, Austin shot a conference best 79 to earn the top honors for the YSCC.
Five days later, NHTI took the long van trip to the Penn St. Campus for the USCAA golf championships.
Our NHTI golf team shocked the USCAA with a very strong overall 3rd place finish against strong teams from all over the country. Many of the top tiered teams were scholarship teams. On day 1 of the Nationals, Austin was in the 13th place just 6 strokes behind the leader. Overall, he finished a strong 10th position 11 strokes behind the champion.
Austin went onto become a member of the SNHU golf team and earned his degree in education. He currently is teaching 4th grade in the Goffstown, NH school district.
On behalf of NHTI Athletics, let’s welcome Austin Fox on stage for his induction to the NHTI Athletic Hall of Fame
