CONCORD, N.H. - NHTI Volleyball remained unbeaten Friday night, outlasting Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in five sets to begin its YSCC Volleyball Crossover Weekend schedule at the Dr. Goldie Crocker Wellness Center.

The Lynx earned a 3-2 victory by set scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25 and 15-9, improving to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Yankee Small College Conference play.

Friday brought NHTI its first five-set match of the season after the Lynx opened the year with five consecutive straight-set victories. Albany entered the night unbeaten in conference play and became the first opponent this season to take a set from NHTI, but the Lynx responded each time before taking control of the deciding fifth set.

After Albany took the opening set 25-21, NHTI answered with a 25-22 victory in the second to even the match. The Lynx followed with a 25-23 win in the third to move within one set of the victory, but the Panthers responded 25-19 in the fourth to force a deciding set.

The fifth was tied 3-3 before Albany scored twice to move ahead 5-3. NHTI answered with five consecutive points, capitalizing on a series of Panther errors to turn the two-point deficit into an 8-5 advantage at the changeover.

Esther de Souza Quina (Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil) then delivered a block that deflected back onto the Albany side and off a Panther to extend the Lynx lead to 9-5.

Albany stopped the run and eventually pulled within 10-8, but NHTI regained control down the stretch. Consecutive Panther attacking errors pushed the advantage to 12-8 before Emma Kowalski (Salem, N.H.) put down a kill to make it 13-8 and force an Albany timeout.

The Lynx moved to match point at 14-8 when Albany was unable to send the ball across the net. The Panthers fought off the first opportunity, but NHTI closed the match on the next point. Brooke Kelly (Nottingham, N.H.) had her initial attack blocked back to the NHTI side before getting another opportunity and putting away the match-winning kill for the 15-9 victory.

The win gives NHTI six consecutive victories to begin the season and keeps the Lynx perfect through their first three YSCC matches.

NHTI continues YSCC Crossover Weekend Saturday at noon against Vermont State University Randolph on Court 2 inside the Dr. Goldie Crocker Wellness Center. The Lynx will then close the weekend Sunday with matches against Paul Smith's College at 2 p.m. and Word of Life at 4 p.m.
