NHTI splits Double-Header with Quincy College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Baseball wrapped up a week of competitive play with a home double-header vs Quincy College. They ultimately split the two game series with Quincy in two very exciting games.

Game 1: NHTI W 14-6

Game one started off quickly as Quincy College was able to score 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Soto hit a double to become the first base-runner and would later get home for the game's first run off a single by Pina. Pina would himself come around to score, alongside Zemotel, off a single from Garcia. NHTI would quickly respond in the bottom half of the inning as a Joseph Gutierrez sacrifice fly scored Maddux Mackenzie from third base. Quincy extended their lead to 5-1 off another 2 RBI single, this time off the bat of Murphy. NHTI would once again quickly respond in the bottom half of the 3rd, with a Travis Graf triple scoring Richard Thibeault. Graf would also come around to score off a RBI single from Charles Hibbert. After a fast top of the 4th, the bats of NHTI remained hot with Thibeault & Graf both recording RBI singles to help tie the game at 5-5.

Quincy was able to retake the lead in the 5th off a Murphy RBI single, but that lead would prove to be short-lived. The bottom of the 5th was an offensive onslaught that saw 12 hitters reach the plate, 8 runs score, & 8 hits recorded for NHTI. Tanner Ludwig tied the game with a RBI single before Kaelib Norman gave the Lynx their first lead with a 2-RBI single of his own. Christopher Dustin had a RBI double and then later scored off a single from Thibeault. Hibbert would record a 2-RBI single and then Ludwig would hit his second single of the inning for his second RBI. From this point Cameron Tinnin completely shut down the offense of Quincy College and NHTI, with another Thibeault RBI single, would ultimately win 14-6.

Tinnin would finish with a complete game victory. Thibeault would finish a perfect 5-5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Graf would finish with 3 hits leading to 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Lastly Hibbert finished with 3 hits & 3 RBI's.

Game 2: Quincy W 12-11
NHTI didn't let the 15 minute gap between games 1 & 2 slow down their momentum as a Charles Hibbert 3-run HR immediately gave them an early lead. Maddux Mackenzie would get a RBI double the very next inning, scoring Joris Voogd, to give NHTI a 4 run lead. That lead would become 5 as a Thibeault single scored Jayson Sagastume to make the lead 5-0. Quincy was able to get on the board for the first time in the 5th inning. Pina started it with a 2-RBI double, then Garcia would double himself to bring in another run. Justin Tyler would have an answer for the Lynx as he walked and then went all the way around the base paths before the next at-bat even concluded. Ultimately scoring off a wild throw to third after a successful stolen base.

Quincy continued to fight back, this time it was Soto with a 2-RBI double that would make the score 6-5 headed into the final inning. Quincy, remembering the 8-run inning from game 1, went on their own offensive onslaught to start the 7th. 11 batters came to the plate, 7 of them found their way home. It started with a Tilton RBI single to tie the game before a wild pitch scored Garcia, giving Quincy their first lead of the game. Zemotel would get an RBI single before Perkins completely blew the game open, along with the roof of the visitors dugout, as he crushed a bases-loaded ball over the right field wall for a grand slam.

With the deficit 12-6 headed into the final inning, NHTI would stay focused and slowly claw their way back. There were no hits in the inning but NHTI was able to draw 4 walks and wear 3 hit by pitches. Ultimately, scoring 5 runs off of those free passes and some wild pitches. Gonzalez, called on to pitch mid-inning, was able to gather himself with the tying run at third and record a strikeout to end the game. A thrilling contest with 12 total runs scored in the last inning.

Assistant Coach Craig Lavigne commented on the games "You can't let teams linger in games like we did today. Perfect example was the first game as Quincy couldn't put us away and we came back and won. We did the same in the second game, we couldn't shut them down and put them away. Games like these will make us better going forward."

NHTI will have a chance to continue their fall season with a home game against CMCC on Wednesday 10/9 at 3:30.
