NHTI Lynx Baseball Shows Grit in YSCC Playoffs
OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME – In a thrilling clash at The OOB Ballpark, the NHTI Lynx Baseball team faced a formidable opponent in Central Maine CC. The game, which unfolded on May 6th, showcased the incredible resolve of the NHTI squad, who fought valiantly throughout the contest.
The NHTI Lynx began the game with an early offensive surge, scoring two runs in the opening inning. Led by the crafty hitting of Kyle Slate and Matt Fortier, who both displayed exceptional plate discipline, NHTI set the tone for the game. Fortier, in particular, showcased his prowess, reaching base on four occasions and scoring each time.
As the game progressed, Cole Johnston, with his explosive power at the plate, launched a remarkable home run, fueling his team's offensive surge. In his first game since suffering an orbital bone fracture off a foul-ball, Johnston played with the fractured and his little sister's protective softball mask. He also made an incredible diving play at shortstop to save two runs in addition to his 400-foot blast to left field. Not to be outdone, James Jones, Jr., unleashed his own offensive arsenal, contributing a pivotal four RBIs.
Despite their commendable efforts, NHTI faced a resilient Central Maine CC squad, led by Jimmy Reed, who delivered an impressive offensive performance with four hits and three RBIs. Central Maine capitalized on key opportunities to secure a hard-fought victory.
NHTI's Isaiah Gutierrez took the mound, showcasing his exceptional pitching prowess and keeping the opposing hitters in check for the majority of the game. His slider was on point, stifling Mustang bats for most of the game. With joyful tears, Gutierrez exited his final game as a member of the Lynx knowing he pitched an exceptional game against a strong Mustangs team.
