CONCORD, N.H. - NHTI Baseball earned a 4-1 victory over Roxbury Community College in Game 2 of Saturday afternoon's seven-inning scrimmage doubleheader at the NHTI Baseball Field.
Playing as the visiting team in the second game, the Lynx broke through with two runs in the top of the second inning. NHTI opened the frame with a leadoff single to right before advancing the runner to third. A Roxbury fielding error on a ground ball to third allowed the runner to score and gave the Lynx a 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, another Roxbury error on a ground ball to shortstop allowed all three runners to advance, bringing home NHTI's second run for a 2-0 advantage.
Roxbury cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third. With a runner on second and two outs, the Tigers delivered an RBI triple to make it 2-1. Logan Minckler (Claremont, N.H.) escaped the inning without further damage, inducing a foul popout to the catcher to strand the runner at third.
The Lynx added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Brenden Ringman (Chicopee, Mass.) extended the lead to 3-1 with a one-out solo home run on a line drive to left field.
NHTI later drew a walk before advancing the runner to second on a sacrifice bunt. After stealing third, the runner came home on a passed ball to give the Lynx a 4-1 advantage.
NHTI held Roxbury scoreless the rest of the way to secure the 4-1 victory and split Saturday's doubleheader. TJ Charbono (Franklin, N.H.) picked up the save for the Lynx.
