CONCORD, N.H. – NHTI Baseball returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 14, when the Lynx travel to Randolph Center, Vt., for a Yankee Small College Conference matchup against Vermont State University Randolph. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The contest was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13, before being postponed to Wednesday.
The Lynx enter Wednesday's contest at 1-6 overall and 0-5 in YSCC play, while the Knights hold a 1-6 overall record and a 1-3 conference mark.
Wednesday's matchup marks the second meeting between the programs this fall. NHTI earned its lone victory of the season against VTSU Randolph on Sept. 15, defeating the Knights 3-2 on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Logan Minckler (Claremont, N.H.) in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Sept. 15 meeting was designated as a countable non-conference contest.
In that matchup, August Hatmaker (Peterborough, N.H.) scored two of NHTI's three runs, including the game-winner, while TJ Charbono (Franklin, N.H.) delivered six innings on the mound, allowing one unearned run and striking out eight. Owen Stewart (Pembroke, N.H.) earned the victory with two scoreless innings in relief.
NHTI enters Wednesday looking to snap a four-game losing streak following a 15-4 setback at Southern Maine Community College on Saturday, Oct. 10. The Lynx have scored 31 runs across seven countable games this fall, recording 57 hits and 13 doubles.
Daniel Sherkanowski (Bristol, N.H.) leads the NHTI offense with a .440 batting average, collecting a team-high 11 hits and two doubles through eight appearances. Pierre Mendez (Manchester, N.H.) follows with a .313 average and a .500 on-base percentage, while Caden Jordan (Hooksett, N.H.) has added seven hits and two doubles. Stewart and Camden Morrill (Raymond, N.H.) share the team lead with four RBIs apiece.
On the mound, Charbono has recorded a team-high 29 strikeouts across 20.2 innings pitched, while Isaac Clough (Antrim, N.H.) has registered 13 strikeouts in 13 innings with a team-best 2.08 ERA among qualifying NHTI pitchers.
VTSU Randolph enters Wednesday coming off its first victory of the season, a 13-5 win over the University of Maine at Augusta on Monday, Oct. 12. Prior to Monday's victory, the Knights had dropped six consecutive contests, including two against York County Community College and one each against Southern Maine Community College, Central Maine Community College, NHTI, and Great Bay Community College.
The Knights have been led offensively by Yasser Calderone, who is batting .400 with eight hits, including a home run, and three stolen bases through five games, according to conference statistics.
Both programs will look to build momentum in Wednesday's conference contest, with NHTI seeking its first YSCC victory of the fall and VTSU Randolph aiming for its second consecutive win.
