Concord, N.H — The NHTI women's soccer team advanced to the YSCC Semifinals following Saturday's 2-0 victory over Maine Augusta.
The Lynx wasted little time getting on the board. In the 7th minute, Alyviah Blad played a ball through the defense to Kayla Amyot, whose shot narrowly crossed the goal line to give NHTI an early lead. The Lynx controlled much of the possession for the rest of the half, but the Moose defense, led by Bubbles Madlokazi held firm to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the break.
Augusta nearly equalized on a counterattack early in the second half, but the shot ricocheted off the post. Morgan Rule doubled the advantage midway through the half, converting from the penalty spot for her first goal of the season.
"Today was a necessary win and that goal was accomplished. Augusta did a great job in disrupting our offense, but the girls still got the job done," said head coach Heidi Crockett. "I would like to give a shout out to our defense as once again; they earned us a clean sheet. It is truly a team effort with this group."
NHTI's back line was once again rock-solid, with center-backs Tia Bocci and Kylie Prusia shutting down multiple Augusta counter-attack opportunities. The Lynx held UMA to just eight total shots, including five on target.
With the victory, NHTI advances to the YSCC Semifinals, where they will face Word of Life on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Central Maine Community College.
