Following an 0-3 start to the season, NHTI Men's Soccer has completely flipped their fortunes around by going on a 4-game win streak. It started against VTSU-Randolph
https://nhtiathletics.com/news/2024/9/16/mens-soccer-nhti-pick-up-first-win-4-1-behind-well-balanced-effort.aspx with a 4-1 victory. Since then the Lynx have dominated the soccer pitch with 3 big wins in the last 10 days.
It started with a
3-1 win vs Roxbury on homecoming weekend
. Jackson Souther got the scoring started in the 25th minute as
Jackson Souther ran a give and go with
Sotir Agalliu, finishing off a perfect pass with a solid strike to the back of the net. Roxbury found the answer as a pass from Mel Amir found Armani Monteiro to draw the game back even. However that goal would only stand as the equalizer for 8 seconds as an immediate pass by
Eric Gonzalez off the ensuing kickoff found
Willem Bellows for the go-ahead goal. That gave NHTI a 2-1 halftime lead. Roxbury, down to ten-men, were unable to find a tying goal in the final 45 minutes. The last blow came in the final 5 minutes as a picture-perfect ball from Souther found
George Hoffman who perfectly placed his shot over the keeper and under the crossbar for the last goal of the game.
Brayden Ring & Aaron Barrieu combined to save 7 shots with only the lone goal allowed.
NHTI continued their win streak with a
2-0 win vs University of Maine at Augusta (UMA). Instead of assisting the first goal-scorer, this time
Sotir Agalliu was the first scorer as he scored a terrific goal on a strike from well outside the 18 yard line. Next it was
Ethan Frenettes turn to dazzle as he dribbled by a defender and also scored on a shot from outside the box. That would prove to be the last goal of the game as NHTI cruised to a 2-0 win. They out-shot the Moose 33-7 with a 10-4 difference in SOG.
The full turnaround was completed after a 2-1 win vs
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS). In a very competitive game it was
Ethan Frenette once again who struck first as he hauled in a pass from
Eric Gonzalez, broke some ankles, and finished with a hard struck ball to the back of the net. That 17th minute goal would stand for the rest of the half. NHTI quickly stuck again as an
Eric Gonzalez cross found
Ethan Frenette who was able to head the ball back to
Sotir Agalliu for the easy finish. The Panthers were able to fight back and get an 89th minute goal as a Zackary Murphy free kick found Sam Rowley for a goal. Fortunately for the Lynx, the goal came too late to mount a full comeback.
Aaron Barrieau had a great day in net making 5 saves in the effort, with some help from
Eric Gonzalez who had a defensive save on what would've been a sure goal.
NHTI will look to continue the momentum, this time on the road as they take on SMCC on Tuesday 10/1. They will return home for another game this week on 10/3 as they take on Hampshire at 4:15.
