CONCORD, NH — The NHTI Lynx are halfway through the season and first in the standings of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC), with a conference record of six and one.
Ranking sixth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Coaches Poll, the Lynx still have high hopes for the season ending in Richmond, Virginia, at the National Tournament.
Terrian Wester and Joseph Cantey have been leading the team, and the conference, in many categories. Both men were named the YSCC Player of the Week (Wester in Week 1, Cantey in Week 4).
Against YSCC teams, Cantey is third in points-per-game (19.7) and leads the conference in points (138), assists (38), and steals (29). Wester leads in offensive and defensive rebounds by a staggering margin. The King of the Paint averaged 14.8 rebounds-per-game, the next highest being Trevor Beals of UMaine, Augusta with 9.2.
Wester is averaging a double-double. Doing so by putting up 15.1 points-per-game, 11th in the YSCC. Sterling Blakely, Dahsan King, and Johnathan Hernandez are right behind him with 14.7 and 14.4, and 14.1 ppg.
The Lynx have deep scoring potential down the bench, and last year's YSCC Coach of the Year, Irv Harris at the helm. The most challenging part of the regular season is yet to come.
The team will be tested right out of the opening tip of the new year. NHTI lost to Washington County Community College and Vermont State University—Randolf to close out the first half.
The Lynx return to the court on January 13 to play against the always tough, Berkeley College Knights. Fans can attend the contest in-person at our Paul Hogan Court on campus at 6:00 PM.
