Darren Johnson started his basketball coaching career in 2015 to 2019, Coach Johnson focused his efforts on basketball, completing his coaching development in the sport. He achieved remarkable milestones during this time. In 2015, he was the Assistant Coach to the Pembroke Academy Spartans. In 2016 he was approached by former Dartmouth Head Coach Dave Faucher to Coach the AAU Lebanon Longhorns and be the Assistant Coach of the Lebanon High Raiders, leading them to the NHIAA NH State Championship in the 2016-2017 season, while enjoying an undefeated season as the head coach to the Lebanon Freshman Boys' Basketball team.

In 2017-2018 season, Coach Johnson was an assistant coach of the Bow High School Falcons boy's basketball team and Head Coach of the JV Team.

The pinnacle of his coaching career came in the 2019-2020 season, where he was hired as Assistant Coach under Head Coach Paul Hogan at NHTI Concord’s Community College. Coach Johnson helped guide the NHTI Lynx to a victory in the YSCC Conference Championship and the prestigious USCAA Men's Division II National Championship, solidifying his reputation as an accomplished, respected, and diverse basketball coach.

From 2019 to 2020, Coach Johnson also served as Head Coach of the NHTI Men's Reserve Team. Demonstrating exceptional talent, skill development and leadership.

Coach Johnson then transitioned to the role of Head Coach for the NHTI Women's Basketball Team from 2022 to 2023. This is where he worked tirelessly on the team’s development & individual player skills, while continuing to build on the program. Johnson was asked to join the Men’s Basketball Team once again for the 2023-2024 season, as Assistant Coach to Head Coach Irvin Harris.

Coach Johnson’s experiences and strengths in this familiar role allows him to fully contribute to the growth and development of this new team, while also supporting each players academic goals. Coach Johnson is an enthusiastic coach, well respected and very passionate about basketball and team development. Johnson is very active in scouting players and developing scouting reports, reviewing team film, organizing practice plans, and managing the year-round organized fundraising. Johnson served in the military for 10 years and currently owns and operates a successful business in Pembroke, NH, where he lives with his wife Gina.
