CONCORD, N.H. – No. 8 NHTI Volleyball returned to the win column Saturday morning with a three-set victory over York County Community College at the Dr. Goldie Crocker Wellness Center, earning the sweep by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-8.
The Lynx improve to 9-2 overall and 6-2 in Yankee Small College Conference play with the victory, while York County falls to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in conference action. Saturday marked NHTI's eighth sweep through its first 11 matches of the season and the second time the Lynx have swept the Hawks this season, with the first coming Sept. 17 in Maine.
NHTI controlled the match throughout, holding the Hawks below 20 points in each set. After opening with a 25-14 victory, the Lynx took the second set 25-17 before closing the match with their most decisive frame of the day, 25-8.
Brooke Kelly (Nottingham, N.H.) led NHTI with eight kills and added two service aces, while Esther de Souza Quina (Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil) finished with six kills without an attack error and four aces. Emma Kowalski (Atkinson, N.H.) added three kills and two aces, while Mia Parker (Mont Vernon, N.H.) recorded four service aces and Ashlynn Williams (Greenfield, N.H.) added three.
As a team, NHTI recorded 16 service aces and limited York County to just seven kills. The Hawks finished with a -.189 hitting percentage for the match, including a -.538 mark in the third set.
The victory keeps NHTI third in the YSCC East at 6-2.
NHTI continues to feature several players among the YSCC's statistical leaders. Kelly currently leads the conference with 103 kills, while de Souza Quina ranks second in hitting percentage at .289, third in blocks per set at 0.71 and fourth in assists per set at 5.85. Williams and Haven Schwartz (Buxton, N.C.) also rank among the conference's top five in total digs with 112 and 110, respectively.
