Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Secures Two Road YSCC Wins

NHTI used a balanced offensive attack and strong rebounding performances to earn back-to-back YSCC road victories, defeating Word of Life 97–80 on Jan. 31 before securing a 78–68 win over Great Bay Community College on Feb. 2.

The Lynx opened their weekend with an offensive surge against Word of Life, jumping out to an early advantage behind efficient scoring from Max Shosa and Kayden Roberts. Shosa established control in the paint early, while Roberts connected from beyond the arc to help build momentum.

Word of Life responded midway through the opening half behind a scoring burst from Xander Eason, who sparked a run that briefly tightened the contest. NHTI answered with perimeter shooting from AJ Richardson and strong interior play from Christian Forysthe and Jordan Roode, allowing the Lynx to regain control and carry a 48-43 lead into halftime.

The second half saw NHTI maintain its offensive rhythm, using second-chance opportunities and timely three-point shooting to slowly extend the lead. Roberts and Richardson combined to score multiple key baskets during a pivotal scoring stretch, while Shosa continued to dominate the glass.

Eason paced Word of Life with a game-high 44 points, adding five assists and five steals, but the Lynx outscored Word of Life 49-37 in the second half to pull away late and secure the 97-80 victory.

On Monday, the Lynx made the short trip to in-state rival Great Bay, carrying their momentum and using a strong first half to take early control of the game. NHTI, led by AJ Richardson, executed efficiently on offense and limited Great Bay's perimeter success, building a 41-27 halftime advantage behind a gritty defensive performance.

The Lynx carried their momentum into the second half, extending their lead to 29 points just seven minutes after the break. Great Bay responded with increased defensive pressure and transition offense, gradually chipping away at the deficit. Jaylen Shelly sparked the Herons' surge, knocking down a three-pointer with just over four minutes remaining to cut the lead to eight. Despite the late push, NHTI remained composed down the stretch, converting key free throws to secure the 78-68 victory.

Richardson led all scorers with 29 points while adding eight rebounds, while Shosa contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Markel Brown turned in a strong defensive performance, pulling down 12 rebounds. Christian Forysthe added eight points on several tough finishes, and Tijae Julien helped orchestrate the offense with a team-high five assists.

Shelly led Great Bay with 21 points, while Roderick Dominique chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.

NHTI improved to 2-13 overall and 2-10 in conference play with the two victories and will look to carry the momentum on February 5th when they play host to Kennebec Valley Community College.
