OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine – NHTI Baseball fell 13-3 to York County Community College Tuesday afternoon in Yankee Small College Conference action at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.
The loss moves the Lynx to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in YSCC play.
York jumped out to an early advantage, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding two more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Hawks collected eight hits across the opening two frames.
NHTI broke through in the fourth when Pierre Mendez (Manchester, N.H.) opened the inning with a single before Daniel Sherkanowski (Bristol, N.H.) doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Sean Kilcoyne (North Andover, Mass.) brought Mendez home on a groundout before Camden Morrill (Raymond, N.H.) followed with an RBI double to score Sherkanowski and cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Hawks responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, extending their advantage to 11-2. York County added another run in the fifth to make it 12-2.
NHTI added its third run in the sixth. Kilcoyne singled and advanced to third on a York County error before scoring when Morrill reached on another error, bringing the score to 12-3.
York County scored once more in the bottom of the eighth to extend its lead back to 10 runs and end the game under the run rule, 13-3.
The Lynx finished with six hits. Kilcoyne led NHTI at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sherkanowski and Morrill each recorded doubles, with Morrill driving in a run. Mendez and Kade McBeath (Vidor, Texas) each added a hit.
NHTI used five pitchers in the contest. Kaelib Norman (Detroit, Mich.) made the start before Preston Stowe (Hatteras, N.C.), McBeath, Sherkanowski and Kilcoyne each appeared in relief. Kilcoyne worked the final 2.1 innings, striking out three.
York County finished with 18 hits, led by AJ Pelletier, who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Cisco Hernandez went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Cam Sengenberger and Eli Greenleaf each added three hits.

The Lynx remain on the road Saturday, Oct. 10, when they travel to Southern Maine Community College for another YSCC matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in South Portland, Maine.
