CONCORD, N.H. — NHTI men's basketball showed resilience throughout the weekend but came up just short in a pair of tightly contested YSCC matchups, falling 67–65 to Word of Life on Saturday before nearly completing a dramatic comeback in an 80–77 loss to Paul Smith's College on Sunday.
The Lynx built early momentum Saturday afternoon, taking a 36-33 lead into the break thanks to a Christian Forsythe three-pointer that rattled home as time expired.
The second half remained back-and-forth, but Word of Life used efficient shooting to slowly pull ahead, outscoring NHTI 34–29 over the final 20 minutes. The visitors shot 44.3% from the field and connected on nine 3-pointers, including one from Harry Keegan in the waning seconds to give the Huskies a 67-63 advantage.
Forsythe and Demery Hadges paced NHTI with 15 points apiece, while Hadges added eight rebounds. Tijae Julien finished with eight points and six assists, and AJ Richardson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go with six points.
Word of Life was led by Xander Eason's 17 points, while Miles Shine added 16 points off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting.
Building off Saturday's effort, NHTI responded Sunday with a strong second-half push, rallying from a 21-point halftime deficit before an 80–77 loss to Paul Smith's.
Paul Smith's jumped out to a 47–26 lead at the half behind efficient shooting, but the Lynx stormed back with a 51-point second half. AJ Richardson led all scorers with a season-high 30 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the floor, while Mossyah Nembhard knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and Markel Brown chipped in 16 of his own.
Manny Belcher led Paul Smith's with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Talon Brooks added 18 points in the win.
"Our growth is steady and real. Paul Smith's was a team that beat us by 20 just over a month ago, and Sunday, we took them down to the wire," said head coach Kieth Matte. "As we sprinkle in some new talent, we'll continue to double down on the right approach and the process of building a winning program."
NHTI finished off the first semester at 0–10 overall and 0–7 in YSCC play and will return to action on Jan. 17, taking on Kennebec Valley CC away from home.
